Elections are an important part of every democratic country. Through elections, people get the chance to choose their leaders. By voting, citizens express their opinions and decide who will run the government. Elections make sure that the government is truly “of the people, by the people, and for the people.”

One of the most important parts of elections is suffrage, which means the right to vote. In India, every citizen who is 18 years or older has the right to vote. However, not everyone in the population is part of the electorate, as there are age and other rules.

Another important step in the election process is nomination. This means selecting a candidate who will stand for election to a public office. After nomination, candidates run election campaigns. An election campaign is when candidates and political parties try to convince people to vote for them. They give speeches, hold rallies, and share their ideas with the public.

During elections, different politicians and parties compete with each other. Citizens then vote and decide who they think is the best leader. In this way, elections play a vital role in keeping democracy alive.
